Evaluation Question 3- What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

Evaluation Question 4- How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Problems Encountered during Question Two of the Evaulation;

We decided to introduce new technology during the evaluation stages of our advanced year. For question two (How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?) we wanted to use KeyNote which Apple's equivalent to Microsoft Publisher. Once we added the slides with videos, photographs, detailed analysis and voiceovers the piece was finished. However, when we went to export the document it only recalled the last slide. We also tried using slideshare but this also failed. Therefore we are putting the evaluation question onto a disc. Moderator- See disc provided

Post Production- Current Status;

Currently we are in the final stages of editing, we as a group are aiming for our short film to be around three minutes in duration. There is a lot of footage to work with therefore we are taking our time to make sure we use it to maximum potential!

As for the ancillary tasks the poster is in process but I'm rusty on how to remember to use Corel Photo Paint 11 therefore I'm learning it all over again.

Joe and Ginas work on the review page looks great yet after I viewed it i suggested some words be changed after sounding too casual.

Typography- Exsisting Media;

As seen previously in 50 Cent's "In da Club" music video and The Matrix, the typerwriter effect has been very popular among different ranges of exsisting media products. We thought this idea would be very effective in our advanced year to prove we could step up the game another notch and make the typography come alive (instead of being boring!).

Typography- Typewriter;

After researching different typography we decided a typewriter effect would work well with our piece as the phone call to 999 is formatted in a similar fashion therefore we wanted to follow the conventions of an emergency. The font above is AMERICAN TYPEWRITER.

Founded on the Macs via Imovie it was simply understood and followed the conventions we found in 50 Cent's music video "In da Club" and The Matrix.

We used dafont.com at the beginning of our research but soon found that every font in the 'Typerwriter' catergory looked very similar. The only difference that made them stand apart were:
  • distortion
  • colour
  • boldness
  • gaps/closeness between letters

Photo for Review Page;

Articles follow certain conventions whether it's about a feature film or niche production. An outstanding image which draws in it's audience could arguable have a big impact on whether the film is a success or not. An example for this is an article on Batman (1989) found in TIME magazine.

The effect of having an explosion behind the batmobile really emphasizes the excitement which surrounds this film. It is also important for your main image to connote what happens in the media piece therefore our establishing shot which as a group we decided is really effective (and cool) shall fade into our review.

Photographs for poster, review & flyer

These photographs were taken during/before our filming process in order to help develop our ancillary tasks. The photos had many different locations such as shots of the smashed car were taken in a local motor garage. We encountered problems while taking photos especially in the college car park with shots of joe lying on the floor. To avoid health and safety issues we had to barrier off part of the car park so no accidents were caused in the process.

Ancillary Task- Analysing Current Film Posters;

Storyboard for fridays filming- new footage;

Our short film hasn't got enough footage yet to be called a short film. Currently it looks like a lengthy trailer. In result to this we decided to establish the main character more by welcoming the plot into his life. Therefore we have created a scene in which helps the audience might understand how he became apart of the climax.

999 Call- Roles, Edits, Script & Technology

Slight change to how we are going to record the phone call. After much discussion, our media teacher gave us the opportunity to use a high tech sound recording device. This is a new piece of technology we haven't used in our previous AS year. In result, we decided it would be best to use a professional piece of equipment not only to develop our knowledge of media equipment but also to make the phone call sound clear and as realistic as possible.

Phone Call- Emergency Service Research;

As part of A2 to raise the bar as a group we are trying to make our piece as realistic as possible. By researching the standard 999 phone call we can then establish our own script to follow the image shown above. After discussing who would play which role I suggested it might by clearer to our audience if we used different sexes for the witness and the phone call operator. Therefore a male will play the role of the witness whereas a female (myself) will be the phone call operator.

Fresh Eyes;

A technique our english teacher has taught us to use when writing a good essay has become helpful for our media production. After having two and a half weeks off college we return to the editing stages and noticed that some of our piece should be changed.
Some of my opinions were:
  • The shot of the car foiled by a green used effect looks out of place
  • The establishing shot is a tad short due to the music I want to mix with it
  • Phone needs doing ASAP to start pulling the full effect on the piece
  • First aid shot is a bit long at the beginning and looks staged
  • Cut the final shot into two first being slow and second being fast to circle back to first shot

After much dicussion our group decided:

  • More footage is needed
  • Cloud shot- quicker
  • Longer establishing shot
  • Maybe experiment with some handheld shots
  • Refilm the blink shot which has an error on
  • Phone call needs to be realistic therefore a male shall ring and a woman will answer
  • Last shot is wobbly
